Have you ever tried needle felting? It’s really quite rewarding. So, in honor of Valentine’s Day, here are simple instructions for making needle felted hearts with your children.

Now, if you have ever poked yourself with a felting needle, you know how much it hurts! Try using cookie cutters as a very practical and simple way to make shapes and avoid those pokes. By holding the edge of the cookie cutter, you can keep your fingers safely out of the way.
Supplies You Need
- wool roving in pinks and purples
- felting needles
- foam felting pad
- heart-shaped cookie cutter
- you can get a complete felting kit here
These little hearts make great gifts. They are perfect for carrying in your pocket as a talisman – a reminder of the giver’s love.
Or, you can make them into a wearable pin by sewing on a pin-backing.
If you don’t have the supplies for needle felting, you can simply cut two hearts out of felt and sew them together. And if you want a sweet-smelling sachet, fill the hearts with lavender just before finishing your stitches.
Add in a special verse and you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day activity.
A Verse About Love
When people hide their faces
From one another,
Then the world is forced
To hide its face.
But when love comes
To rule the earth,
And people reveal their faces
To one another,
Then the splendor of God
Will be revealed.
Kind Hearts
Kind hearts are the garden,
Kind thoughts are the roots.
Kind words are the blossoms,
Kind deeds are the fruits.
Have a Happy Valentine’s Day full of love and hugs!
Oh Jean, I love your felted heart! You have reminded me that I need to get working on some Valentine’s Day goodies too. Thanks so much for the inspiration. Aloha, Lori
Thanks, Lori! Valentine’s Day always has a way of sneaking up on me. I have an older crowd here, so I’m going to make some heart-shaped chocolate fudge – GF/DF of course. Hugs to you and yours!
