Waldorf education was created over 100 years ago by Rudolf Steiner. His motivation? To bring about social and economic renewal after the devastation of WWI.

Waldorf education was created for healing.

And in today’s world, I turn to this Steiner verse for an uncertain world again and again.

Do you ever feel derailed or scared about the world that we will turn over to our children?

Today, I offer you a Steiner verse for an uncertain world. Plus a meditation he wrote that I often recite as my daily inner work practice when I first wake up.

A Steiner Verse for an Uncertain World

When the world around seems uncertain and even scary, what we do as mothers and fathers to nurture ourselves and our little ones?

First of all, Steiner might well say that we need to pay more attention to the unseen world than the seen one. Call on our angels or higher power or spirit of the universe ~ whatever you want to call it ~ to bring us strength. Through prayer and meditation.

Steiner inspired initiatives in the fields of farming, architecture, and meditation in addition to education. He was a prolific lecturer and wrote many verses for special occasions and for personal prayer.

Steiner Verse for an Uncertain World

Here is an especially relevant verse that might help you keep fear at bay and stay hopeful. No matter what’s going on in the world around us.

A Verse for Our Time

We must eradicate from the soul
All fear and terror of what comes towards man out of the future.

We must acquire serenity
In all feelings and sensations about the future.

We must look forward with absolute equanimity
To everything that may come.

And we must think only that whatever comes
Is given to us by a world-directive full of wisdom.

It is part of what we must learn in this age,
namely, to live out of pure trust,
Without any security in existence.

Trust in the ever present help
Of the spiritual world.

Truly, nothing else will do
If our courage is not to fail us.

And let us seek the awakening from within ourselves
Every morning and every evening.

~Rudolf Steiner

How might you use this verse or weave it into your day?

I like to choose one verse to work with for a period of time ~ say a month or a week. And use it as my morning meditation.

First, choose your verse and read it through to yourself. Eventually, you’ll probably memorize it!

Then sit quietly and meditate on a few words or phrases that speak to you.

Even five minutes of this can bring a shift to your well-being and your day.

Bonus if you write the words or phrases on a post-it note to keep somewhere and remind you of your meditation throughout the day.

Steiner Meditation

In addition, here’s a wonderful grounding verse from Rudolf Steiner. In the early years of our family’s homeschooling, my inner work practice consisted of reciting this verse to myself as I sipped on a hot cup of tea.

Inner Quiet

Quiet I bear within me,
I bear within myself
Forces to make me strong.
Now will I be imbued with their glowing warmth.
Now will I fill myself
With my own will’s resolve.
And I will feel the quiet
Pouring through all my being
When by my steadfast striving
I become strong
To find within myself the source of strength
The strength of inner quiet.

~Rudolf Steiner

Yes, parenting is hard work. It calls on us to dig deep.
