Episode 123

We wear so many different hats as homeschoolers. And sometimes that can leave us feeling overwhelmed, scattered, and stretched thin.

Homeschooling is a big responsibility. And it calls on us to be vulnerable.

So on this episode of the Art of Homeschooling podcast, I want to invite you to consider the 100 roles of a homeschooler. And celebrate with me!

These roles are all integrated into your being, into all that you do.

My hope is that by celebrating the many roles of a homeschooler, you’ll feel proud of all that you do because the world needs you and the unique gifts you bring.

Embrace and Celebrate All That You Are

All of these roles are part of the human experience. Roles like teacher, mother or father, cook, or peacekeeper.

It has only been in modern times that our different roles have been separated and that society has designated places to learn and work that are not home.

Embracing all of these roles can feel hard if we ourselves did not have good role models growing up.

Many of us didn’t have parents who themselves were lifelong learners, or who had hobbies they were passionate about, or lived purposefully and with intention.

Reading about or learning about different cultures and different eras in history can broaden your view about how to juggle different roles, how to live intentionally, and how human families can learn and grow together.

And there’s nothing like learning as we go. I have certainly grown so much right alongside my children.

As homeschooling parents, we’re facilitators of learning, and of experiences. And the classroom isn’t the only place to learn. Children can learn to read on the couch, under a table, in the garden, or in a play fort.

Children learn from anything and everything they see. They learn wherever they are, not just in special learning places.”

~john holt, learning all the time

And just like children are learning all the time everywhere, all of the roles we play are helping them to learn and grow.

So let’s celebrate all that we do as homeschoolers!

Hurray for all the hats you wear, and all the things that you are and do, dear homeschooler! ⭐💗🎉
