Episode 262
If you’ve ever felt like you have plenty of homeschooling information but still aren’t sure how to put it into practice, this episode is for you. Listen in as I explore what happens when you have ongoing support on your homeschooling journey.
Often, what we need most is a mentor, a community, or simply someone who has walked the path before us. And this week, I am reflecting on 20 years of the Taproot Teacher Training and how this annual gathering played a part in my homeschooling journey.
I find myself thinking back to a Taproot music workshop that changed the way I approached homeschooling. I had the recorders, the books, the sheet music, and the instructions ~ but I was still missing something important.
What I needed wasn’t more information. I needed to see the process in action. I needed the chance to practice, make mistakes, ask questions, and learn alongside others. And that’s what I got at the very first Taproot Teacher training back in 2007.
In this podcast episode, I explore why support is often the missing piece for homeschooling parents and how ongoing encouragement, mentorship, and community can transform information into real growth and confidence.
What Happens When You Have Ongoing Support
In this episode, you’ll hear:
- Why information alone often isn’t enough to build homeschool confidence
- What I learned from a simple recorder lesson that shaped my homeschooling journey
- How experience and practice help ideas come alive
- Why confidence grows faster when we learn alongside others
- What ongoing support looks like inside a homeschooling community
- How mentors and fellow homeschoolers can help us see our children with fresh eyes
- Why support turns information into transformation
The longer I homeschooled, the more convinced I became that homeschooling was never meant to be a solo journey. We grow through relationships, shared experiences, and the encouragement of people who understand what we’re trying to do.
Looking back, the most valuable part of my homeschooling journey wasn’t a curriculum, a planner, or even a particular teaching method. It was the people who walked alongside me ~ the mentors, teachers, and fellow homeschooling parents who helped me learn through experience.
We were never meant to figure this all out alone.
Support for Your Homeschooling Journey
If you’re looking for an immersive in-person experience where you can learn through doing, I would love to invite you to join us at the Taproot Teacher Training in August. Taproot gives homeschooling parents the opportunity to experience the lively arts firsthand, learn alongside experienced mentors, and discover what teaching and learning look like in real life ~ not just in theory.
And if what you need right now is ongoing support, encouragement, coaching, and connection throughout the year, the Inspired at Home online community was created for exactly that purpose. Through monthly masterclasses, coaching calls, and a welcoming community of homeschooling parents from all over the world, you’ll find the guidance and support you need as you continue to grow in confidence and create a homeschool that truly fits your family.
