Stop Starting Over Every Spring

Episode 249

My message today on the Art of Homeschooling podcast is to stop starting over every spring! And if you’ve ever felt like scrappy everything and starting over in the spring, you’re not alone.

This time of year has a way of making everything feel a little wobbly ~ lessons feel unfinished, motivation dips, and suddenly you’re wondering if it would be easier to just start fresh. I want you to know this is a completely normal part of the ebb and flow of the homeschool seasons.

In our home, I came to recognize this as the “spring slump.” The seasons shift, the light changes, and everyone is ready to be outside again. What worked so well in the fall and winter often needs a gentle adjustment in the spring, but that doesn’t mean anything has gone wrong.

Instead of scrapping your plans and searching for something new, this is an invitation to simplify. When we focus on what truly matters and let the rest soften, homeschooling can feel lighter and more aligned with the season we’re actually in.

In this episode, I share five simple ways to shift your homeschooling this spring so you can move forward with more ease, confidence, and connection.

Stop Starting Over Every Spring

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • Why spring often brings doubt and the urge to start over
  • What causes the “spring slump” in homeschooling
  • How seasonal shifts affect energy, rhythm, and motivation
  • Why simplifying your homeschool can be more effective than restarting
  • What it looks like to learn through field trips, read-alouds, and time outside
  • How to redefine progress beyond finished pages and perfect lessons

When we stop trying to force homeschooling to look the same all year long, we can begin to work with the natural rhythms of the season instead of against them.

Spring invites us to lighten up, get outside, and trust that meaningful learning is still happening ~ even when it looks different than we planned.
